Clients should however supply us with the following:
- A level and smooth surface in which the cold room will be erected.
- A suitable power point within six metres of the cooling plant.
- Adequate access for materials and equipment.
Construction
Cold rooms are manufactured with metal cladded insulated panels which are odour-free, corrosion resistant, hygienic and easy the clean. The panels consist of two selected stressed metal skins, free of imperfections and damage, permanently bonded to the low temperature polystyrene core by means of a heat polymerising adhesive. The panels are precision cut to size in our factory so that installation on site is quick, clean and efficient.
Panel Joining
The panels are joined together by means of male/female insertions to which a non-hardening rubber-base mastic is applied. The panels are then compressed and fixed in position. After this, the joints are externally sealed with a silicone sealer.
All wall panels are continuous from floor to ceiling and the ceiling panels are generally continuous over the shortest span of the room. Should this span however exceed four metres, the panels are suspended from roof-trusses or other suitable structures.
Insulation Core
The core consists of virgin grade expanded polystyrene or polyurethane and can be provided in a variety of thicknesses and densities to suit any application.
Panel Finishes
The panels can be clad with various finishes to suit the client's particular needs:
- Galvanised steel G275 - this finish is rugged and can withstand severe
usage. It is ideal for fish storage.
- Galvanised steel coated with baked silicone polyester in a frost white
colour (known as chromadek). This commonly used finish combines
strength with durability. It blends with most decors.
- Stainless steel - this high-grade finish is hygienic and durable and
compliments modern kitchen equipment.
These finishes can be used in various combinations, for example a chromadek exterior with a stainless steel interior, or any other combination.
Doors
The doors are of robust construction with the same insulation and cladding as the wall panels. They can either be of the hinged or the sliding type and the frames are fitted with neoprene gaskets.
The hinged doors are supplied with heavy-duty imported hardware. The sliding doors work on the principle of "drop down and drop in" for perfect sealing against the frame and the gasket. All doors are fitted with internal safety features inside, even when it is padlocked. Doors for rooms operating below 0°C are fitted with heater tapes in the sub-frames.
Floors
Floors can consist of standard sandwiched panels reinforced on the upper face with aluminium checker plate or any other suitable finish. In the case of heavy and continuous wear, the insitu type floor is recommended. This floor consists of a layer of polystyrene insulation laid on a 250 micron hyperlastic vapour barrier. It is then covered with a layer of lightly reinforced concrete.
Floor insulation is not required when cold rooms are installed on ground level and operating above 0°C.
Racks
Cold room racks are provided as an optional extra. Standard type racks consist of stainless steel or galvanised steel u-sections for the framework, with stainless steel or galvanised steel shelves bolted to it. Any other racks can be supplied to suit the client's requirements.
Size of standard rack [WxDxH]:
- 1190 x 500 x 1800mm
- Number of shelves per standard rack - 4
Meat rails
Meat rails manufactured from either stainless steel or galvanised steel, are also supplied as an optional extra. Standard meat rails are supported on galvanised steel pipe stanchions with base plates bolted to the concrete floor. Meat rails can also be supplied to suit the client's requirements. |
